कुम्भेरदुर्गे मराठासेना संघर्षं करोति स्म। खण्डेरावः — अहिल्यायाः पतिः — अग्रे अग्रे गच्छति स्म। एकस्य तोपस्य गोलेन सः आहतः अभवत्। अहिल्या विधवा जाता — नवविंशतिवर्षीया। शोकः असीमः — परन्तु धर्मः च असीमः।
At Kumbher fort, the Maratha army was in fierce battle. Khanderao — Ahilya's husband — was leading from the front. He was struck by a cannonball and fell. Ahilya became a widow — twenty-nine years old. The grief was boundless — but so was her dharma (धर्म — righteous duty).
