राज्ञी भूमौ उपविष्टा

The Daily Durbar
प्रतिदिनं प्रातःकाले अहिल्या राज्ञी दरबारं करोति स्म। न सिंहासने — भूमौ साधारणे आसने। जनाः समागच्छन्ति स्म — दूरात् अपि। कृषकः, जुलाहः, वणिक्, विधवा — सर्वे समानाः। राज्ञी सर्वेषां वचनं शृणोति स्म — धैर्येण, प्रेम्णा च।
Every morning, Queen Ahilya held her durbar (दरबार — court). Not on a throne — but on a simple mat on the ground. People came from far away to be heard. Farmer, weaver, merchant, widow — all were equal before her. The queen listened to every voice — with patience and with love.
