The Sacred River Narmada
The Narmada River flows westward — rare among India's great rivers. The scriptures say — "By the mere sight of the Narmada, sin is destroyed." At Maheshwar, Ahilya bathed in the Narmada every morning. She thought — "These ghats are old and broken. How will the people reach the river?" A resolve (संकल्प — sacred intention) formed in her heart.
