The British Take the Fort

In March 1854, British soldiers came to take over Jhansi Fort. "The state of Jhansi is now part of the British Empire" — this was declared. Lakshmibai was forced to surrender the royal crown and jewels to the British. Tears came to her eyes — but her head remained held high. "The fort is gone — but Jhansi is in my heart."
