Kunti Receives the Mantra
Kunti — adopted daughter of Kuntibhoja — was skilled from childhood in welcoming guests. The great sage Durvasa lived in her home for many days. Pleased by Kunti's devoted service, the sage granted her a boon: "Daughter! Take this mantra — by which any god may be summoned. Whatever god you think of — he will come to your side." Kunti received the mantra — but with the curiosity of a young girl: "Does this mantra truly work?" the question arose in her mind.
