Pandu's Sorrow

In Hastināpura, Pandu was king — a mighty and courageous ruler. One day, Pandu went hunting in the forest. There he saw the sage Kindama — in the form of a deer. Not knowing this, Pandu released an arrow. The sage was furious: "O King! You have committed a grave wrong! The moment you seek the happiness of a father — that very moment shall be your last." Pandu was overwhelmed with grief.
