Rāma Prays to the Ocean

रामः समुद्रतटे त्रिरात्रम् तपः अकरोत्। सः समुद्रं प्रति प्रार्थयत् — "मार्गं देहि।" समुद्रः मौनम् अवतिष्ठत्। रामः कुपितः धनुषि बाणं सन्दधे। "शोषयिष्यामि समुद्रम् इति"।

Rāma performed austerity at the seashore for three nights. He prayed to the ocean — "Give me a path." The ocean maintained silence. Rāma, angered, fitted an arrow to his bow. "I will dry up the ocean, thus (he thought)."
