The Name They Chose
ज्योतिरावः सावित्री च सम्यक् विचार्य एकं नाम अयोजताम् — "सत्यशोधकसमाजः।" सत्यम् — यत् वास्तविकम्। शोधकः — यः अन्वेषयति। समाजः — मनुष्याणां मिलनम्। इदं नाम एव तेषां दर्शनम् — सत्यस्य अन्वेषणम्, सर्वेषां कृते।
Jyotirao and Savitribai thought carefully and chose a name — "Satyashodhak Samaj." Satya (सत्यम्) — that which is real. Śodhaka (शोधकः) — one who investigates, purifies. Samāja (समाजः) — the gathering of human beings. This name itself was their darśana (दर्शनम् — vision/philosophy) — the search for truth, for all.
