नमस्ते
Namaste
(namaste)The divine in me bows to the divine in you
Full Meaning
Namaste is far more than a greeting. Namas (bow, salutation) + te (to you). When said with hands pressed together (añjali mudrā) at the heart, it is an acknowledgment that the divine spark within one person recognises and bows to the divine spark within another. Not "hello" — a recognition of shared divinity.
Etymology
Namas (नमस्) — bow, salutation, reverence + te (ते) — to you. "I bow to you."
Usage in Sanskrit Texts
In yoga studios worldwide, namaste is said at the end of class — teacher bowing to students, students bowing to teacher. The palms together at the heart is the gesture of this mutual recognition.
नमस्ते — The divine in me bows to the divine in you.
