Full Meaning
Rāma means "the one who delights" or "the one who gives joy." He is the seventh avatāra of Vishnu and the hero of Vālmīki's Rāmāyaṇa — the ideal king (rājā), ideal son, ideal husband. His story is the moral template of Hindu civilization: the prince who sacrifices everything for dharma.
Etymology
From the root ram (रम्) — to rejoice, to delight, to rest. Rāma is "the one who brings delight."
