Sanskrit letter writing (patralekhanam) is a CBSE exam requirement. Letters follow a fixed format: salutation, body (3-5 sentences), closing. Formal letters use the third person; informal use the second.

Formal letter format (to a principal/teacher)

सेवायाम् | आदरणीय महोदय/महोदया | निवेदनम् अस्ति यत्... | आपका आज्ञाकारी शिष्यः | नाम / तिथि

Formal leave application to principal

Informal letter format (to a friend)
